Feel free to email if you need further info.
Classes are designed to follow a “student driven” tutorial format.
Each student works with subject and media of their own preference.

I supply direction where needed through demonstrations and additional exercises assigned to each student as required.
(Usually I will suggest/demonstrate an exercise, alternate project or technique which will assist in the student’s planned project)

Students range in age from 10 yrs to senior.

Sessions often mix skill levels, allowing beginners the added benefit of seeing advanced work and picking up new techniques from more than the instructor.

Some classes are specifically designed for beginners and or intermediate students.

Classes are ongoing throughout the year with the exception of long weekends and brief shutdowns during the summer.

Registration fee is $180 for ten sessions (20 hr). Classes are limited enrollment. * A waiting list is available if you are interested in an already full session.

(Additional sessions may be scheduled if demand is sufficient).

Supply lists are determined during the initial class as I determine your expectations and skills.  The primary session is most often a basic composition and technique exercise in which I can determine your skills and preferences.  Minimal supplies for this class are:

- drawing pad, pencil (3H, HB, 3B), white vinyl eraser, sharpener.  (*Some art supply stores offer a student discount with presentation of your registration receipt. Be sure to ask about student discounts before they ring up your purchase.

*WORKSHOPS ARE BOOKED AND SCHEDULED ACCORDING TO SUBJECT, MEDIUM AND  CALENDAR CONSIDERATIONS.

See FAQ section for any additional Class info:

Is there a session best suited to my skill level?

Each session is comprised of a variety of skill levels. Beginners to advanced mutually benefit by listening in to any instruction given in the class to any students.  Advanced levels often discover techniques they have never encountered when the instructor is demonstrating a technique to a less advanced participant, while the novices can see the advanced students struggle and overcome problems which they might never had tried or seen in a class comprised only of novice artists.

Is there classroom instruction?

The majority of the classes are "Tutorial Format".  The instructor circulates while students work at individual subjects and media offering assistance and instruction to each participant.  If there is an exercise which will allow the student to reach his/her goal in the artwork; Michael will recommend a "detour" and demonstrate a different approach or technique to solve the challenge (or avoid some roadblocks).

If students need some step-by-step instruction, Michael will walk them through the process at hand and fellow classmates are welcome to participate or listen in adding any questions that may come to mind. (In effect each attendee can gain knowledge in more than their own particular medium through this approach. - Some students have been known to detour into exploring art materials and techniques they had no idea existed or were in the least interested in - until they experienced them though on-looking as Michael assisted a classmate.)

What happens if I miss a session?

Although absenteeism is not recommended, I recognize that life can get in the way of your personal time and activities.  If you are unable to attend a session; I ask that you notify me as soon as possible so that I know when I will have a vacancy during any session(s).   I try to re-schedule students in "open spaces" when other student cannot attend their booked session. Your missed session can be made up when I have space in other sessions.  Missed classes are not cumulative and will not be carried over into subsequent classes after the booked block of ten sessions is  over.
